Former Aberdeen player Ian Burns dies, aged 76

Former Aberdeen player Ian Burns has died, the club have announced on their official website.

Burns, who played for the Dons from 1957-1966, passed away on Sunday night at the age of 76.

He was born in Aberdeen and made his debut for his hometown club in a 5-1 League Cup victory over Queen of the South at Pittodrie on August 10, 1957.

The right-half went on to make a total of 192 appearances for Aberdeen and scored six goals.

Burns moved on to Brechin City in 1966 and played 82 games for them before retiring in 1970.

A statement from Aberdeen read: "The club was saddened to learn of the death of former player Ian Burns. Our thoughts are with Ian's family at this sad time."
