Livingston manager Mark Burchill has been removed from his post and placed on gardening leave.

The former Celtic and Scotland striker has relieved of his duties after one year and five days in the position.

A club statement read: "Livingston Football Club regretfully announce that Mark Burchill has been relieved of his managerial duties with immediate effect and will serve out the remaining period of his contract on gardening leave.

"The club would like to thank Mark for his hard work, contribution and past achievements. The club will be making no further comment at this stage."

The 35-year-old, who initially joined Livi as a player/coach in March 2013, led his hometown club to the Petrofac Training Cup and Scottish Championship survival last season, beating Alloa 4-0 in the cup final and overturning a six-point deficit at the foot of the table.

Victories over Cowdenbeath, Falkirk, Raith Rovers and Queen of the South in the final month of the season saw them climb out of the bottom two on the final day of the campaign.

Burchill had to contend with a signing embargo until June 16 because of the club's ownership issues and they are four points ahead of bottom club Alloa this season.
