Watch the shocking own goal that helped knock Aberdeen out of the Europa League

Aberdeen defender Graeme Shinnie scored a howler of an own goal to send the club crashing out of the Europa League qualifying rounds.

The Scottish Premiership side had not had the best of luck during the third round second leg - with no goals, the tie was still tied 1-1 on aggregate from the first game at Pittodrie - and their night was rounded off with the shocking blunder.

In the 93rd minute, Maribor confirmed their progress in farcical fashion after an attempted back pass from Shinnie bobbled over goalkeeper Joe Lewis' foot and into the net - handing the Slovenian side an overall 2-1 victory and passage to the play-off phase

Striker Adam Rooney had earlier wasted the opportunity to put his side ahead in the tie when, with the score 0-0 on the night, he had a penalty saved by Jasmin Handanovic, who had fouled Rooney.

Derek McInnes' side also finished the game with 10 men after second-half substitute Jayden Stockley was dismissed for a second bookable offence in the space of six minutes.
