Former Celtic utility man Charlie Mulgrew has joined Blackburn Rovers.

The 30-year-old joins on a three-year deal following his release from Scottish champions Celtic at the end of last season. He becomes Rovers' 11th new signing this summer.

Able to play in defence or midfield, Mulgrew came through the youth ranks with Celtic before gaining valuable experience while on loan at Dundee United.

In August 2006, he joined Wolves and played seven times as they reached the Championship play-offs.

Mulgrew enjoyed a loan spell with Southend United the following season, making 20 appearances for the League One side, as the Scot reached his second successive play-off finals.

A return to Scottish football followed, with Mulgrew moving to Aberdeen in July 2008. He would spend two years at Pittodrie, scoring 10 goals in 83 appearances, before new Celtic boss Neil Lennon brought him back to the Glasgow club in July 2010.

A Scotland international with 24 caps to his name, Mulgrew won five league titles, two Scottish FA Cups and one Scottish League Cup during his six seasons at Parkhead, making 205 appearances and scoring 30 goals.
