Rangers left it late to beat struggling Dundee at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, but they failed to close the gap on second-place Aberdeen who came from behind to beat Inverness in the Highland capital.

The only goal in Glasgow came via the head of Harry Forrester who glanced home Joseph Dodoo's cross, deep into injury time, to give Rangers three valuable points.

Despite dominating both possession and shots on goal, the Gers spent most of the afternoon frustrated by the Dark Blues who created one or two chances themselves.

The visitors forced Wes Foderingham into a decent first-half save from Tom Hateley's free-kick, while the defender also tested the Rangers 'keeper after the break with yet another effort which was pushed away for a corner.

Kevin Gomis missed with a header and Marcus Haber's shot was cleared by Jason Holt, who later tested Dundee keeper Scott Bain.

Paul McGowan cleared off his own goalline but, just as Paul Hartley's men appeared ready to celebrate a hard-fought away point, Forrester came to the rescue with a 93rd-minute winner.

Meanwhile, more than 160 miles away in Inverness, the hosts opened the scoring against Aberdeen who hit back to win 3-1.

Kenny McLean netted twice for the Dons who fell behind in the 16th minute, against the run of play, when Lonsana Doumboya headed home Ross Draper's cross.

However, 12 minutes later McLean's well-executed free-kick brought the visitors level, before Aberdeen went ahead from the penalty spot.

The always lively Jonny Hayes was fouled by Gary Warren, and Adam Rooney made it 2-1 on 33 minutes.

Home 'keeper Owain Fon Williams pulled off a brilliant save to deny an Andrew Considine header but, with 88 minutes on the clock, McLean claimed his second with a low drive following a Hayes cross.

And there were six goals at McDiarmid Park where Ross County beat St Johnstone 4-2.

Visiting County went ahead on 24 minutes when Jay McEveley headed home Chris Burke's corner, before Christopher Routis added a second on 38.

Craig Curran picked up a loose ball before curling his cross to the far post where Routis gave keeper Zander Clark no chance with his powerful header.

The third County goal arrived just after the hour mark - and was yet another header - this time from Curren thanks to Liam Boyce's assist.

Two minutes later the hosts from Perth reduced the arrears, as Danny Swanson netted from the penalty spot after McEveley handled in the box and was shown a yellow card.

With 10 minutes remaining, Steven MacLean met Brian Easton's cross to score St Johnstone's second of the match, and a set up a grandstand finish.

However, County relieved the pressure by scoring their fourth headed goal of the day, as Kenny van der Weg fed Boyce whose effort took a deflection on its way into the back of the net.

The three points ended County's 10-game run without a win and moved them off the bottom of the table and up to eighth.

Finally, at Fir Park, two first-half goals sealed Motherwell's 2-0 victory over Partick Thistle.

Louis Moult opened the scoring on 14 minutes when he tapped home from close range, after Thistle 'keeper Thorsten Stuckmann had failed to deal with Scott McDonald's cross.

Seven minutes before the break, McDonald added a second from the edge of the box, while Chris Cadden almost extended the margin in the second half with a shot that clipped the bar.
