Aberdeen and Partick Thistle joined Celtic in the quarter-finals of the William Hill Scottish Cup after narrow wins over fellow Premiership sides.

Adam Barton's early goal was enough for Thistle to beat St Johnstone 1-0 at McDiarmid Park, while Shay Logan struck late for the Dons, who edged past Ross County 1-0 in Dingwall.

Championship strugglers St Mirren are also through after a 3-2 win at East Fife, but Ayr United and Clyde face a replay along with Hamilton and Dunfermline.

Earlier on Saturday, Celtic had cruised into the last-eight with a 6-0 thumping of Inverness, a game in which Moussa Dembele grabbed his second hat-trick in less than a week.

Aberdeen are Celtic's closest challengers in the league, albeit 27 points adrift, but they struggled to break down Ross County before securing their passage with three minutes remaining.

Derek McInnes' side was on top for much of the game but they failed to make the most of their chances with County 'keeper Derek Fox on top form.

Fox denied Niall McGinn and Ryan Jack while Graeme Shinnie fired just past the post after a Johnny Hayes shot had been parried.

But Fox was finally beaten in the 87th minute when Logan picked the ball up on the right and fired a shot into the back of the net off the inside of the post.

It was a different story for Partick, who claimed the advantage in their clash with St Johnstone when Barton side-footed home in the seventh minute.

Saints dominated possession for much of the game but it was their 'keeper Zander Clark who made the game's best saves.

His best came to deny David Amoo a second goal just after half-time and he was also alert to parry a Liam Lindsay header.

The best St Johnstone chances came in the closing stages but Blair Alston and Chris Kane failed to test Tomas Cerny with efforts agonisingly off target.

St Mirren forgot their league struggles against East Fife, with Cammy Smith giving them a 33rd minute lead at Bayview.

Chris Duggan equalised for the Fifers on 54 but they were unable to peg back the Buddies again after substitute Lewis Morgan scored on 70 and 84.

Duggan's penalty three minutes into added time came too late for East Fife to force a replay against a side seven points adrift at the bottom of the second tier.

Ayr United are second-bottom in the Championship and they were held to a 1-1 draw by League Two side Clyde at Somerset Park.

Clyde grabbed the lead when David Gormley struck on 55 minutes but Ayr at least secured a replay thanks to Paul Cairney's 70th minute equaliser.

Dunfermline and Hamilton will also have to replay after a 1-1 draw at East End Park.

Paul McMullan gave Dunfermline the lead on the half-hour and they held that advantage until 16 minutes from time, only for Danny Redmond to fire home an Accies leveller.
