Brendan Rodgers considering loan offers for Kris Commons and Gary Mackay-Steven

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed the club have received offers to take two players on loan for the rest of the season.

Championship leaders Hibernian are keen to have forward Kris Commons for a second spell, while promotion-chasing Dundee United are among the clubs who have enquired about Gary Mackay-Steven.

Commons recently returned to Celtic Park following an emergency loan period with Hibs, where he made a big impression in Neil Lennon's team.

Hibs were undefeated in all five games in which Commons played, and he netted twice with both of his goals proving to be match-winners.

Commons said on Monday that he would be open to a return to Edinburgh.

"He's back training with us after a good loan spell out at Hibernian," Rodgers said as he prepares his team for Sunday's Scottish Cup tie against Albion Rovers. "It's not just about the next six months for him but the next few years."

Mackay-Steven spent three-and-a-half years with United before moving to Celtic in January 2015, but Rodgers is keen to hold on to the winger.

"I've had a number of offers for Gary but he's not someone I would like to see leave," Rodgers added.

"He's a very important member of our squad here and in the second half of the season we want to be better."

Midfielder Kouassi Eboue, who will not be available to face Rovers, is Celtic's only signing in the January window, but Rodgers remains hopeful of further adding to his squad before the end of the month.

Rodgers said: "We're looking at one or two players but we'll see. If I don't make another signing I'm still very happy with the squad I have.

"If the right player is available then we'll do it, but if not, we've got a strong squad to take us through to the end of the season."

The Hoops boss also clarified he is keen to hold on to Nir Bitton and insists there have been no offers for the midfielder or striker Nadir Ciftci despite media claims.
