From Arsenal to Juventus: Celtic join football's Invincibles

Brendan Rodgers' Celtic earned the 'Invincibles' tag by beating Hearts, but who else has achieved the rare title?

The Scottish Premiership champions secured their league triumph back at the start of April but the pressure was still on for their season finale on Sunday, as they looked to finish the campaign undefeated.

They did just that, with goals from Leigh Griffiths and Stuart Armstrong sealing a 2-0 win and taking their league record for the 2016/17 campaign to P38 W34 D4 L0.

Celtic aren't the first team to achieve that feat though. Here we profile some of the other teams who have gone unbeaten through an entire league campaign:

Arsenal (2003/04)

Fans may have hung up their 'Invincibles' capes for 'Wenger out' banners, but it wasn't all that long ago the Gunners had superhero status. Their talent-packed 2003/04 side - which included Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires - lifted the Premier League trophy without losing a single game - and are still the only side to do so.

Critics will point towards Arsenal's long list of draws (12) - Chelsea and Manchester United have both won the league with higher points tallies - but Arsene Wenger's side clinched the title at White Hart Lane in April and still managed to go another four games without defeat.

Steaua Bucharest (1986/89)

Steaua Bucharest went an unprecedented 104 games unbeaten in domestic competition over a spell which saw them win three league titles.

In what was the golden age of Romanian club football, Steaua even saw off Barcelona on Spanish turf to lift the European Cup in 1986.

For those of you attending any niche pub quizzes, Miodrag Belodedici, Laszlo Boloni, Marius Lacatus and Victor Piturca were among the star names to figurehead Steaua's success.

Juventus (2011/2012)

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte may have taken England by storm this season, but his Premier League win is nothing compared to the feats he achieved in Turin.

Under his management, Juventus went 43 consecutive matches across all competitions - including their entire Scudetto campaign - without tasting defeat before finally coming unstuck against Napoli in the Coppa Italia final.

Preston (1888/89)

More than 100 years before Arsenal's historic triumph, Preston North End were the last top-flight team in England to make it through an entire campaign without losing, in the inaugural Football League competition in fact.

The caveat for the Lilywhites may be that the league only consisted of 12 teams at the time, but Preston did also claim the FA Cup in the same season, beating Wolves in the final.

Sheriff (2006/07)

Moldovan football's dominant force in the noughties, Tiraspol-based side Sheriff won ten national titles between 2001 and 2010.

The peak of their powers came in the 2006/07 campaign when Leonid Kuchuk was in charge, guiding the team to an unbeaten league triumph for the first time in the country's history. Rivals Zimbru finally shot the Sheriff down in 2008, ending a remarkable Invincible run.
