Chelsea midfielder Charly Musonda has completed a move to Celtic on an 18-month loan.

Sky Sports News reported on Monday that Brendan Rodgers had claimed Celtic had beaten 24 other clubs to get the Belgian, despite wanting Musonda last summer.

The 21-year-old was a key player in Chelsea's academy, and this season, he has made seven first-team appearances, scoring on his full debut against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.

"Charly is a big talent that I've known for a few years now," Rodgers said.

"It is a big thank you for Chelsea because he is really one of the shining lights within the academy and has progressed through with various loans out and obviously has been part of the first-team squad.

"I think there was something up to 24 clubs interested in taking Charly so for him to want to come to here and Chelsea very happily to want him to come is a great coup for us as a football club."

Musonda, who will be available to play in Celtic's match at home to Hearts on Tuesday night, signed a new contract at Chelsea just last month that keeps him with the Blues until 2022.

However, the Belgium Under-21 international will now continue his development with more regular first-team football with the Scottish Premiership reigning champions and current league leaders.

Musonda's signing makes him the 34th Chelsea player to join another club on loan this season.
