Scotland on the back-burner as Lee Wallace keeps focus on Rangers

Lee Wallace has no qualms about missing out on the Scotland squad for a friendly double-header against the Czech Republic and Denmark, insisting his sole focus is on helping Rangers to former glories.

The left-back's last appearance for the national team came against the United States in November 2013 and he was once again overlooked by head coach Gordon Strachan, with Hull's Andrew Robertson and Celtic's Charlie Mulgrew preferred.

However, Wallace, 28, does not want to dwell on what might have been and will concentrate fully on Rangers' push towards the Scottish Premiership.

Indeed, he admits not currently playing in the Scottish top flight might have been one of the reasons for his continued omission.

The Rangers captain said: "There's no relevance in me talking about or wishing I can be there.

"I can totally take that argument where you have to be playing at the top level in your country to be in with a chance of being selected for the national team.

"But when Rangers do get back to the top flight, for me it's not about looking at that road, it's about how we can keep moving forward and that's European football.

"We're not too far away from completing the first set of goals. Once we do go up, there'll be another set of goals unleashed that myself, my team-mates, the manager and the coaching staff will attack with all guns blazing.

"The only true relevance is how best I can contribute to the club that I'm playing for and love playing for every single week."

Rangers' hopes of automatic promotion from the Championship suffered a minor setback after a 3-2 defeat to second-placed Falkirk last week.

Mark Warburton's men led 2-0 after 10 minutes but then surrendered three goals in a frantic final 20 minutes as they lost for just the third time in the league this season.

While they are 11 points clear of the Bairns, Wallace is eager for his side to get back to winning ways against Queen of the South at Ibrox on Saturday.

"You look at overanalysing a defeat and it's a common theme here by the fact that it's rare in terms of losing," Wallace added.

"We're a heavily critical group, we're always overcritical of each other. That's by no means a dressing room lashing or a heated debate. We're always a demanding group, even after comfortable victories there'll still be areas we think we can improve.

"In terms of moving forward it's about swallowing it, it's about dealing with a defeat, learning from the defeat and every defeat there's a new learning process. We're still a team in process, we're still a team that's learning about each other.

"We're going to mistakes along the way, there's no doubt about that, but we've got the utmost belief in our work ethic that we will keep getting better because we've got a good attitude and we've got good character in that dressing room."
