Josh Windass marked his Rangers debut with the opening goal in their 2-1 friendly victory Charleston Battery in South Carolina.

The summer recruit from Accrington Stanley rifled the ball into the roof of the net in the 57th minute and former Doncaster midfielder Harry Forrester added a second 14 minutes from time.

Ataullah Guerra (81) beat Gers debutant keeper Matt Gilks at his near post to give the home side hope but the visitors held out much to the delight of their small band of travelling fans.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton utilised all his available outfield players in a match which provided an important workout in extremely hot conditions.

Clint Hill, another of Warburton's recent acquisitions, was thrown into the action in the 12th minute after centre half Danny Wilson was forced to leave the pitch with blood streaming from his nose.

Andy Halliday (twice), Oguchi Onyewu and Windass all had good chances to break the deadlock as the Scottish Premiership new boys dominated the opening period but they were forced to settle for a blank scoreline at half time.
