Kenny Miller believes he can continue playing an important role for Rangers if he is used in his best position.

The veteran striker rode to Gers' rescue against Motherwell, with his late double booking their place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

The 37-year-old has entered the final five months of his Rangers contract but his daring double was the perfect reminder to the Ibrox board.

Miller believes he will be able to continue proving his worth to the club if he is given the chance to lead the line for Mark Warburton's team through the middle.

Warburton has utilised Miller's nous and experience by playing him out wide and even in midfield during last month's win over Aberdeen.

But the former Scotland international believes Warburton will get the best out of him if he plays up front, as he did against Well with Joe Garner out injured.

"With the way we play - or how we try to play when we're at our best - it's easy to play in any position," said Miller. "But for me, number nine no doubt is my favourite position.

"That's been my position throughout my career and it's the one I feel most comfortable in.

"It's the role I know the best, so it wouldn't be a coincidence if that's where you see the best of me."

Gers left it late to hit back after Louis Moult gave the visitors a surprise lead at Ibrox with 16 minutes remaining.

It is the kind of situation Warburton's men have found themselves in often this season and they have not always found a solution.

But Miller said: "The character is there. We've obviously taken a lot of knocks this season so it's important we stick together in situations like this.

"The fans turn up and expect to see us win, and rightly so. It's up to us to put on a performance so when you're losing 1-0 in a cup, and looking like you're on the way out, it's important we stick together and stick to the plan.

"Luckily on Saturday we got our rewards."
