Bruno Alves is flying into Scotland on Tuesday for talks and a medical ahead of a possible move to Rangers, say Sky sources.
The 35 year-old defender, who's been capped 89 times for Portugal and won Euro 2016 last summer, is currently with Italian side Cagliari.
If he agrees a deal he would become Pedro Caixinha's first signing as Rangers manager.
Alves is part of the Portugal squad for the forthcoming Confederations Cup and is set to meet up with the national team ahead of Saturday's friendly with Cyprus.
Portugal will then play a World Cup Qualifier against Latvia on June 9.
