Rangers are to take legal advice, after discovering that Portuguese club Benfica have pulled out of their planned North American fixture next week.

The Glasgow giants were due to face the two-time European champions in Canada on Friday, October 6.

However, Benfica have informed the organisers, Elite Soccer Entertainment, they will no longer be travelling to Hamilton for the Eusebio Cup match.

According to the Rangers website, the club "are still waiting for an explanation".

They were preparing to fly across the Atlantic on Tuesday, with the club adding that they will be "expressing their displeasure on behalf of themselves and their supporters in the strongest possible terms".

In a statement, the Ibrox club said: " We wish to apologise to those fans, who had made arrangements to travel, and those in Canada, who were looking forward to the match.

"Rangers will take legal advice before commenting further."
