Former England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard would be a good appointment as Rangers manager, says Charlie Adam.

Gerrard has been linked with the Rangers job in recent days and has been made the odds-on favourite for the position by bookmakers.

Current boss Graeme Murty's contract with the Glasgow club is set to finish at the end of the season and Gerrard's former team-mate Adam, who made 61 appearances for Rangers between 2003 and 2009, believes he could be the right man for the job.

On his personal Twitter account Adam wrote: "I think it would be a good appointment. The people he has around him are very good coaches and been in the game a long time.

"On the fitness side he has a top fitness guy who will oversee everything."

Adam started his career at Rangers before joining Blackpool, where he spent two seasons ahead of a move to Liverpool in 2011.

Gerrard retired from professional football in November 2016, having spent a season in the MLS with LA Galaxy following his Liverpool departure.

In January 2017, he took on a coaching role at Liverpool's academy and by September he was manager of the U19 team in the UEFA Youth League.

Rangers chairman Dave King has previously praised Murty for his work at the club, but said he was determined to make the "best appointment" possible ahead of next season.

On Sunday, Rangers take on rivals Celtic, who could clinch the title, at Celtic Park, live on Sky Sports Football.
