Wigan Athletic are understood to have enquired about the availability of Hibernian midfielder Scott Allan, according to Sky sources.

The 23-year-old has been the subject of three failed bids from Rangers, the latest coming on Tuesday and believed to be worth almost £300,000.

Hibs have insisted they won’t sell to their Scottish Championship title rivals despite the player handing in a transfer request in order to force a transfer to Ibrox.

Rotherham United have been credited with an interest in Allan but despite rumours of a bid from them, Easter Road chief executive Leeann Dempster has said there has been no official approach.

Now Wigan are thought to have made their admiration of the former Dundee United and West Bromwich Albion player known.

Allan has a year left of his contract in Edinburgh and will be free to talk to other clubs from January about playing for them next season.

For now, however, he remains part of Alan Stubbs’ squad after making two substitute appearances this season and scoring in last weekend’s 3-0 League Cup win over League Two side Montrose.
