Aberdeen closed to within a point of leaders Celtic with an impressive 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

The Dons opened the scoring after nine minutes when Kenny McLean whipped in a cross and Niall McGinn glanced in a header at the back post.

Adam Rooney netted his 50th goal for Aberdeen 10 minutes before the break, and this time McGinn supplied the delivery from the right.

Aberdeen secured the points minutes after the interval when McLean crossed for the unmarked Jonny Hayes to supply the finish.

Shaleum Logan put the gloss on the performance 10 minutes from the end when he netted from close range after substitutes Cammy Smith and Peter Pawlett combined to create the chance.

Kane Hemmings scored a first half hat-trick as Dundee made a blistering start in their 4-0 victory over Hamilton at Dens Park.

He struck his first after five minutes by rounding Accies goalkeeper Michael McGovern after Jamie Sendles-White failed to cut out Gary Irvine's long ball out of defence.

Hemmings (21) again rounded the 'keeper after further slack defending from the visitors, this time failing to deal with a Greg Stewart through ball.

And the forward completed his treble five minutes later as he burst forward and unleashed a low drive from distance into the far corner.

Stewart had put the Dark Blues 2-0 ahead after 19 minutes when he took a pass from Gary Harkins and stepped inside the box to curl the ball beyond McGovern.

Struggling neighbours Dundee United were again frustrated as they twice lost the advantage to draw 2-2 against Inverness Caley.

A rare goal from John Rankin gave United a deserved lead as he latched onto a cut back from Scott Fraser and blasted the ball into the roof of the net on 29 minutes.

Inverness equalised with the first attack of the second half when the United defence failed to deal with a Danny Williams cross and the ball dropped to Liam Polworth to place home.

Former Caley Thistle star Billy McKay (81) looked to have secured a vital win for the visitors on his return to the Highlands scored after Fon Williams spilled from Chris Erskine.

But there was further drama when another mistake, this time from United 'keeper Michal Szromnik, who failed to deal with a cross and allowed Lewis Horner to steer the ball home in the dying moments.

Partick climbed into the top six and within a point of Ross County after beating the Higland side 1-0.

Thistle were gifted the decisive goal seven minutes into the second half when Staggies defender Andrew Davies got into a tangle and diverted a Stuart Bannigan cross into his own net.

St Johnstone endured a frustrating afternoon when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Hearts at McDiarmid Park despite the visitors playing for over an hour with 10 men.

Hearts lost Juanma (28) when he retaliated following a challenge from Saints midfielder David Wotherspoon.

St Johnstone unsurprisingly had the best of the game and squandered a great opportunity in the latter stages when Miguel Pallardo pushed Chris Kane inside the box.

But from the resulting penalty Steven MacLean blasted the ball high over the bar.
