Shaleum Logan netted a 71st-minute winner as Aberdeen kept the pressure on Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic with a tense 2-1 victory over lowly Kilmarnock.

Logan stooped to head home from six yards when he met a low Jonny Hayes cross, with the win returning the Dons to within one point of the Hoops, who earlier in the day had beaten Partick Thistle by the same scoreline.

The hosts were on top from the start, dominating the early stages at Pittodrie, where Kenny McLean's shot from outside the box struck a post after seven minutes.

Niall McGinn forced a decent save out of Jamie MacDonald on 21 and, with Killie struggling to create anything in front of goal, it was no surprise when the hosts finally broke the deadlock eight minutes before half-time.

From Barry Robson's corner, Ash Taylor headed the hosts in front as Aberdeen chased a 10th successive triumph over Saturday's opponents.

However, the visitors were back in the game just after the restart, with what was their first real effort of the afternoon.

Rory McKenzie nodded a Greg Kiltie cross back into the path of Josh Magennis, who levelled matters with a bullet header.

It was only Killie's second goal against Aberdeen in 576 minutes, but it promised to make a huge dent into the home side's title hopes.

But back came the Dons, who hit the bar before Logan restored their lead 19 minutes from time, and they safely saw the match out to secure three vital points.

The result leaves Kilmarnock eight points clear of Dundee United at the bottom after the Taysiders lost 2-1 at Motherwell on Friday night, although United have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, at Dens Park, Jamie Walker netted the only goal as Hearts beat Dundee 1-0.

During an action-packed start to the contest, both teams could have scored inside the opening 20 minutes.

Walker went close within 60 seconds, Darren O'Dea heading narrowly wide for the hosts, while Arnaud Djoum nodded wide with a close-range header.

And Djoum should have done better for the in-form visitors when he failed to hit the target from the edge of the six-yard box on 44.

Although Dundee began the second half brightly, it was the Jambos who broke the deadlock seven minutes after the restart when Djoum fed Walker who rounded keeper Scott Bain before calmly giving Hearts the lead.

As the hosts chased an equaliser, Rory Low had a deflected effort cleared off the line by Liam Smith, allowing the Edinburgh side to deservedly claim three points.

And there was another 1-0 victory for the away team at the Caledonian Stadium where Hamilton edged past Inverness.

Carlton Morris was Hamilton's hero, just before the hour mark, collecting Grant Gillespie's pass before scoring with a low 12-yard shot which went in off the far post.

During a largely drab first half, Michael Devlin and Gramoz Kurtaj had rare chances for the visitors while Liam Hughes had a header saved by Michael McGovern.

As Inverness tried to level matters during the closing 20 minutes, a 35-yard piledriver by Greg Tansey flew inches over the bar.

Iain Vigurs, Nat Wedderburn and Hughes all had shots while, at the other end, Darren Lyon forced a good save out of Owain Fon Williams.

The three points gave Hamilton just a second win from the last 14 matches in all competitions.

Earlier in the day, Celtic beat Partick Thistle 2-1 at Firhill.

Leigh Griffiths broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time with a low strike, while Callum McGregor added a second when he drilled his shot into the far corner of the net on 54.

With five minutes remaining, Thistle reduced the deficit from the penalty spot through Sean Welsh after Erik Sviatchenko had been harshly adjudged to have pulled back Steven Lawless.
