Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes insists his team is still in contention for the Scottish Premiership title after their 3-0 win over Hamiton.

First-half goals from Simon Church, Niall McGinn and Kenny McLean gave them an easy victory as they closed the gap on leaders Celtic to four points.

Although the margin between the two is relatively small, time is beginning to run out for Aberdeen as they look to get ahead of the Parkhead side.

They have one game less than Ronny Deila's side to play and have just six more fixtures between now and the end of the season.

Nevertheless, McInnes remains upbeat and said: "It was important the players showed they were still fighting.

"The pitch helped us as it was in far better condition today, but we had a lot of players playing at the top of their game.

"It was a strong 90-minute performance. In the first half we obviously got the goals but the movement and speed we brought was difficult for Hamilton to contain.

"We've started a lot of games similarly but haven't always managed to get the goals to match, so getting the second was very important to us and the third knocked the stuffing from Hamilton.

"Nobody within our camp feels the season is a write-off. We've still got work to do, and we'll finish where we deserve."

Hamilton were poor throughout and they now have just one win in their last seven games as they sit just four points above the relegation play-off spot.

Manager Martin Canning was disappointed with his side's capitulation and said: "We didn't start the game well. It was an issue for us when we went to Celtic Park and it's been the same again.

"When you come up against players of the quality of (Jonny) Hayes, McLean and McGinn, the last thing you want to do is give away an early goal.

"I'm very angry with the first half performance. We conceded two soft goals and we didn't respond to it.

"We were far better in the second half. We responded better and were competing better, but by then the damage is done."
