Neil Lennon says his Hibernian side have exceeded his expectations after he was named Premiership manager of the month

Neil Lennon has told Sky Sports News his Hibernian side have exceeded his expectations after he was named Premiership manager of the month.

The Hibernian boss oversaw league wins over Hearts, Motherwell and Kilmarnock in the last eight days of October, following a home loss to Aberdeen and a League Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic.

Hibs, who were promoted last season as Championship winners, are currently in third place in the standings, two points behind second-placed Aberdeen.

Lennon told Sky Sports News: "In the early part of the season we were playing really well but not getting the results but now the players are getting the results they deserve.

"Celtic are the juggernaut and then there's Aberdeen and Rangers and the rest of us are fighting to get in the second and third places."

Hibs have taken 25 points from 13 league matches so far this season, recording their fourth successive victory with Saturday's 2-1 win over Dundee.

Lennon added: "Yes, we have exceeded expectations so far but obviously we want to be in the top six at the end of the season and we have got ourselves in a good position to do that.

"It's been a great start and we are heading in the right direction. The support we have been getting is amazing but we have some tricky fixtures coming up in the coming weeks."
