Falkirk's Alex Smith set to become the oldest manager in Europe

Alex Smith will become the oldest manager in Europe's professional leagues when he takes charge of Falkirk against Dunfermline this weekend.
The 77-year-old has agreed to take charge of the Bairns on an interim basis following the departure of Peter Houston.
After beginning his management career in 1968 at Stenhousemuir, Smith went on to win the Scottish Cup with St Mirren in 1987 and then Aberdeen 1990. He also guided the Dons to Scottish League Cup success in 1989.
Smith, who also had spells at Dundee United and Ross County, has most recently been working as technical director at the Falkirk stadium.
He said: "I think it probably is some kind of record. It's certainly unusual.
"But it's about how you are and how you feel about the game. I've been in football all my life and I thrive on it every single day.
"Because of the type of job I have I can keep myself reasonably fit and sharp. I'm up for the job, okay.
"It's great, you get that excitement again and that feeling that I wish I was just starting over and I could get another 40-odd years in management. It's just superb."
This will be Smith's second interim spell at Falkirk having stepped into the breach when Steven Pressley left the club in March 2013.
