Stewart Murdoch has become manager Ray McKinnon's first signing as he looks to reshape the Dundee United squad.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who recently left Ross County after they cut short his contract 12 months early, has signed an initial one-year deal at Tannadice.

McKinnon said: "I am delighted to have Stewart on board. He is exactly the type of player we need going into this season.

"Not only is he the right age and a good footballer but he is a ball winner who is strong in the tackle and will protect our central defenders. I am sure United fans will take to him straight away."

Murdoch said: "'I'm delighted to be joining Dundee United, it was an easy decision to make. It's a massive club and I want to help them get back to the Premiership where they should be."

Murdoch left County after making 34 appearances for the club since his debut in 2015.
