Rudi Garcia made a positive start as Marseille head coach with a 0-0 draw at Paris St-Germain in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

An impressive defensive display from Garcia's new team, after he took over from interim boss Franck Passi on Thursday, meant PSG finished the night six points adrift of leaders Nice.

The draw is set to heap further pressure on Unai Emery, whose team failed to score at the Parc des Princes for the first time since March.

Alassane Plea netted a hat-trick as Nice moved four points clear at the top thanks to a hard-fought 4-2 win at Metz.

Looking to maintain their impressive start to the season, Nice did not have long to wait to get off the mark as Jean Michel Seri's superb pass released Plea to fire beyond Thomas Didillon.

Metz levelled on 25 minutes through Georges Mandjeck, but Plea scored from the penalty spot before the break.

The league leaders again failed to hold on to their lead when, just a matter of seconds after replacing Mandjeck, Habib Diallo met Erding's downward header and fired a half-volley beyond Cardinale on 69 minutes.

Nice continued to threaten, though, and Plea completed his treble in the 83rd minute, slotting the ball through the legs of Didillon after Belhanda's through-ball sent him racing clear.

And there was still time for Wylan Cyprien to get in on the act as he netted in added time to seal the points.

St Etienne secured their first Ligue 1 away win of the season with a 2-0 success at Caen.

Henri Saivet and Jordan Veretout, on loan respectively from Newcastle and Aston Villa, came up with their first goals for Les Verts at the start of the second half.

Saivet opened the scoring with a sweet 49th-minute volley and Veretout added the second nine minutes later from close range.

Veretout had almost opened his account in the first half with a 25-yard drive which was well saved by Remy Vercoutre.

Struggling Caen have now lost five of their last seven matches.
