Former Spain goalkeeper and Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is set to take up the same role at Marseille.

The French Ligue 1 club, under new ownership, sacked Belgian sporting director Gunter Jacob on Wednesday after just three months in the job.

Marseille were officially taken over by American tycoon Frank McCourt last week, following months of protracted negotiations, and he made immediate changes, naming Rudi Garcia as new head coach.

And Zubizarreta - the fourth-most capped Spain international of all time - is set to be appointed at a press conference at the Stade Velodrome on Thursday, according to reports in Spain.

Zubizarreta joined Barcelona as sporting director in 2010 following a successful spell in the same role at Athletic Bilbao, and signed a plethora of quality players during his five years at the Nou Camp.
