Lyon and Besiktas have been handed suspended European bans by UEFA, following crowd trouble which broke out during their first leg Europa League tie last week.
The match in France was delayed after violence erupted in the stands, forcing kick-off to be moved back by 45 minutes.
UEFA deemed that supporters of both clubs were responsible for the crowd disturbances and were also fined €100k each.
The French and Turkish teams have been excluded from taking part in the next continental club competition for which they qualify, with the governing body deciding that the suspension be deferred for a probationary period of two years.
Therefore, if there are any other further incidents involving the clubs in the next two years, UEFA will ban them from playing in the next European competition for which they qualify.
A statement from European football's governing body reads: "Based on official reports and current available evidence at the disposal of the UEFA disciplinary bodies, the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) has considered that the supporters of both clubs were responsible for the crowd disturbances at the match."
At one stage, Lyon's president Jean Michel Aulas had to approach supporters to calm tensions in the stadium.
Around 500 police were stationed at the stadium, many more than usual, after authorities deemed the fixture 'high risk.'
Going into their home leg on Thursday, at the Vodafone Arena in Istanbul, Besiktas trail Lyon 2-1.
