Unai Emery admitted Paris Saint-Germain missed a "major opportunity" as they were stunned in the Champions League by Barcelona.

The Ligue 1 side saw their 4-0 first-leg advantage reduced to 4-3 at the Camp Nou, before Edinson Cavani's away goal on the hour mark looked to have ended Barca's hopes of a comeback.

But the hosts scored three times in the final eight minutes to secure a 6-5 aggregate win and book their place in the quarter-finals.

"When we analyse it, it is true that we have missed a major opportunity," said Emery, who had guided Sevilla to Europa League glory in three consecutive seasons before heading to Paris.

"The first half was our fault and we didn't manage to press or do things with the ball. We defended very deep and they had more chances to score. We made mistakes for the two first-half goals.

"We were calmer in the second half and better positioned. We improved and had a chance for 3-2. The refereeing decisions went against us and we lost everything in the closing minutes.

"Barcelona are capable of doing that. It was all or nothing for them in the final minutes."

PSG missed chances to score a second away goal as Cavani saw a shot saved and substitute Angel di Maria failed to finish after being played through.

"It is a negative experience for me and for the club. We need to learn from it," said Emery.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was understandably downbeat in the wake of the result.

"Three weeks after winning 4-0, we lose 6-1. That's very, very hard to accept," he said, quoted by the official UEFA website.
