Former Newcastle United winger Hatem Ben Arfa has lost his case against FIFA at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Ben Arfa was seeking to reclaim €4m (£2.92m) he said he had lost in wages after he was banned from playing for French club Nice in the second half of last season.

The 28-year-old Frenchman signed for Nice in January but could not play for them because of transfer rules.

FIFA rules state that players cannot play for more than two clubs in a season and Ben Arfa had already played for Hull City, who he joined on a season-long loan on September 2, 2014, and the Newcastle development team.

CAS has backed FIFA's decision that development team games are official matches.
