Gary Neville promises change in Valencia's fortunes

Gary Neville has promised to turn around Valencia's fortunes as they look for a first La Liga win under the Englishman.

Valencia have lost four of their nine league games since Neville took over from sacked manager Nuno until the end of the season, and were beaten 1-0 by Real Betis on Sunday

They host Barcelona on Wednesday night in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final, having lost the first leg 7-0, before hosting lowly Espanyol on Saturday in what Neville describes as a 'must-win'. 

"I'm desperate to turn these results around. I will turn these results around," he said.

"My belief is that these moments that we're having going against us in football matches at this moment will turn and that they'll start to go our way very soon. That is my promise to you.

"It has to turn around Saturday. We have to win this match on Saturday, that is the pressure that I'm putting on myself, and is the expectation of everybody. We have to win this game on Saturday."

Valencia are now just four points off the relegation zone having been in contention for a top four spot when Neville took over, and their 7-0 defeat at the Nou Camp was their worst since 1993. 

Neville has taken "full responsibility" for the result, and is looking ahead to the return clash at Mestalla with a positive outlook. 

He added: "Last week was unacceptable and I've said that and I take full responsibility for that. 

"I think tomorrow [against Barcelona] we have to look at this game with a positive mentality, we have two games in three days, obviously to get the result and go through is near-on impossible. 

"The fans of this football club were here long before me, and will be here long after me. It's in their heart, their soul, it's what they live for. 

"And from my point of view, I want to give them what they want. I'm determined, I'm positive, I'm unbreakable in that respect, but at this moment in time the results are obviously testing."
