Valencia's wretched start to the campaign continued as they suffered a third straight La Liga defeat at home to Real Betis.

Pako Ayestaran's men came into the contest at the Mestalla having been beaten by Las Palmas and Eibar and remained pointless despite battling back from 2-0 down against Betis as Ruben Castro netted a stoppage-time winner for the visitors.

Ruben had opened the scoring for Betis in the 38th minute with a smart low finish from Cristiano Piccini's pass and the hosts were reduced to 10 men when Enzo Perez was shown a straight red for a foul on Riza Durmisi.

Joaquin made it 2-0 but Rodrigo's angled drive gave Los Che hope with 15 minutes left.

Three minutes later, Ezequiel Garay levelled when Betis failed to clear a corner but Ruben's decisive goal piled on the pain for Valencia.

Sporting Gijon have enjoyed a much more positive start to the campaign and were 2-1 winners at home to Leganes as they moved above Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the table.

The newly-promoted Leganes arrived at El Molinon unbeaten but fell behind when Nacho Cases capitalised on an error by Martin Mantovani to score Sporting's first.

Garcia struck with five minutes of the first half remaining but Depor were unlucky not to share the spoils when Florin Andone had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside in the final five minutes.

Eibar gained a second win on the bounce as they triumphed 2-1 away to Granada.

The home side were hoping to recover from a hammering at the hands of Las Palmas before the international break and were playing against 10 men when Eibar goalkeeper Asier Riesgo was sent off for bringing down Ezequiel Ponce.

Pedro Leon still managed to give Eibar a 43rd-minute lead with a shot which bounced up in front of Granada goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa but the hosts drew level with 15 minutes to go through Artem Kravets.

However, Eibar snatched all three points at the bitter end through Sergi Enrich.
