Valencia are in a strong position to reach the last 16 of the Copa del Rey after winning 3-1 at Leganes in the first leg of their fourth-round clash on Tuesday.

Los Che are struggling for consistency in La Liga, without a win since October 16, but took the lead after only three minutes through Munir El Haddadi.

A header from Alvaro Medran doubled Valencia's lead in the 25th minute.

Leganes, who sit a place above Valencia in 15th in La Liga, reduced the deficit through Darwin Machis just before the hour mark.

However, Valencia scored what could prove to be a vital third goal in stoppage time through substitute Zakaria Bakkali following a break down the left.

Espanyol needed a late goal to earn a 1-1 draw at second division Alcorcon.

Alvaro Gimenez put the hosts ahead six minutes into the second half, which looked to have been enough to secure a slender first-leg advantage.

However, with just six minutes left Espanyol substitute Jose Antonio Reyes slotted in from the edge of the box following a weaving run from Leo Baptistao.

Eibar secured a dramatic 2-1 win at top-flight strugglers Sporting Gijon.

Bebe put the visitors in front after just two minutes and Sporting missed a chance to level half-an-hour later when Borja Viguera's penalty was saved.

The striker eventually got on the score-sheet with a 62nd-minute header.

However, with just a minute of regulation time remaining Ruben Pena swept the ball in at the far post to seal victory for the visitors.

Tuesday's late kick-off saw Real Betis beat Deportivo La Coruna 1-0 with a header from Antonio Sanabria after 19 minutes.
