Athletic Bilbao closed in on the European spots with a 3-1 victory over Granada in La Liga on Sunday.

Markel Susaeta struck the opener after 11 minutes for Bilbao, but soon saw his goal cancelled out by Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez's effort for the relegation-threatened side.

Inigo Lekue then restored Bilbao's lead, before Mikel San Jose sealed the win after 69 minutes.

Elsewhere, Sporting Gijon, one place above Granada in 18th, were denied victory by Iago Aspas' late equaliser for Celta Vigo in a 1-1 draw.

Moi Gomez put Sporting ahead from the spot after 49 minutes, but Jorge Mere was dismissed before Aspas netted a free-kick.

And Espanyol climbed up to ninth with a 3-0 win over 10-man Osasuna. Felipe Caicedo scored the opener before missing a penalty after Oier's dismissal, but they didn't pay for it as former Watford man Jose Manuel Jurado and Gerard Moreno struck after the break.
