Sevilla kept their faint hopes of a top-four finish alive with a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, to move within five points of Valencia.

Luis Muriel ended a run of seven games without a goal with the opener and Franco Vazquez's header gave them a solid before half-time.

Villarreal's hopes of a second Champions League campaign in three years faded as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Girona.

Former Middlesbrough player Cristhian Stuani put the visitors ahead from a corner, and a fine finish from Anthony Lozano gave Girona three points with 10 minutes to go and move them just a point away from their hosts.

Clarence Seedorf is still looking for his first win as Deportivo La Coruna boss but will be happy with a point after playing much of their game with Eibar with 10 men, and still earning a 1-1 draw.

Eibar took an early lead through Takashi Inui, but the hosts levelled when Florin Andone turned in Adrian Lopez's cross.

Maksym Koval had a debut to forget for Depor when the goalkeeper was sent off before half-time, but the 10-man side hung on for a point.

Leganes moved three points off the top-half with a comfortable 2-0 win over bottom side Malaga.

The hosts were made to wait for their opener, but finally went in front after 55 minutes from Javier Eraso's header.

And they doubled the lead seven minutes later, when Watford loanee Nordin Amrabat scored his first league goal since 2015 to keep Malaga rooted to the bottom of the table.
