Larsson ready for return

Barcelona striker Henrik Larsson is ready for a return to his native Sweden.

Henrik Larsson has revealed that he made the decision to leave Barcelona and return to his native Sweden back in October after talking it over with his family.

The former Celtic striker has failed to earn a regular place in the Barca side and would like to see out the remainder of his career playing on a weekly basis.

One of the key reasons behind Larsson's decision to return home is that he wants his son to grow up in Sweden, while the fact that he has been away for more than a decade has also influenced his choice.

"First of all, I spoke to my family," Larsson told Barcelona's official website. "I have been away for 12 years now, which will be 12-and-a-half when my contract finishes in the summer.

"My son is growing up and I want him to know what life is like in Sweden. My original plan was to return home after two years at Barca. I am 34 and I think I have got a couple of years in me yet, so I'd like to spend them playing more regularly."

Despite the news only breaking in December, Larsson explained that he decided to leave Camp Nou in October and immediatly informed the club.

Barcelona were considering offering the forward an extension to his current deal which expires at the end of the current campaign, but were told that he had already made up his mind.

"In October, then I spoke to the club about it. I was really proud that they offered me another year on my contract, but I could not accept," Larsson continued.

"My agent and I spoke with Txiki, Frank and Henk and the President was informed about it all the way through, so there'd be no surprises and it was clear. I was going home to play football, which is what I wanted. After many years away from home everything comes to an end."

Despite the speculation about his next destination, Larsson confirmed that he has had no contact with any other clubs.

"We have not yet spoken with any Swedish clubs," he said. "I have not signed anything yet and I am just focussed on things here at Barca.

"I am not worried about my future, my agent deals with these things and I just concentrate on my job here.''
