Machlas arrested over traffic crime

SEVILLA striker Nikos Machlas has been arrested after committing a series of traffic offences and resisting arrest by police officers.

The Greek international, who is on loan at Sevilla from Ajax, was detained on Tuesday morning.

It is alleged that after becoming stuck in a queue, Machlas pulled his car into the opposite lane of traffic and sped off at high speed endangering both pedestrians and drivers alike.

On being stopped by police officers, Machlas resisted arrest, 'insulting and injuring' officers, according to a police statement.

The former Vitesse Arnhem star has endured a miserable time since joining Sevilla on loan during the transfer window, making just one start for the Primera high-fliers.
