With the score at 1-0 after Raphael Varane's opening goal, Isco picked out Ronaldo at the back post and considering he was only three or four yards out, it was a near certainty that the net would ripple.
However, the record-breaking star fluffed his left-footed volley from close range and the ball ballooned over the crossbar much to the surprise of the watching world and Ronaldo himself, who looked bemused that he managed to miss the chance.
