Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema had the goal at his mercy with a minute to go in the 2-2 draw with Valencia but somehow managed to shoot wide

Karim Benzema spurned a golden opportunity to score the winner for Real Madrid against Valencia.

With the game poised at 2-2, Benzema fired wide from six yards out with the goal gaping, much to the frustration of Real boss Zinedine Zidane.

That came after Marco Asensio rescued the reigning La Liga champions to make it 2-2 with his second goal of the game.

Asensio's opener was cancelled out by Carlos Soler and Geoffrey Kondogbia stunned the Bernabeu when he put the visitors ahead in the second half.
