Real Sociedad's Juanmi scored twice during their 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid. The defeat for Simeone's men now leaves them 12 points adrift of Barcelona with five games left

Substitute Juanmi struck twice to dent Atletico Madrid's hopes of a top-two La Liga finish as they went down 3-0 at Real Sociedad.

Atletico remain 12 points adrift of leaders Barcelona and three clear of third-placed rivals Real Madrid, with both sides having five games to play.

The home side took the lead midway through the first half when Willian Jose fired past goalkeeper Jan Oblak from Adnan Januzaj's 27th-minute pass.

Sime Vrsaljko came close to an equaliser with 23 minutes remaining, but Juanmi's strike 10 minutes from time and his stoppage-time header saw La Real home.

Aleix Garcia and Cristhian Stuani eased Girona within four points of the top six courtesy of a 2-1 win at Alaves.

Both sides had chances before the break, but it was the visitors who finally went ahead 14 minutes after the restart through Garcia's free-kick.

Substitute Stuani doubled the lead with an 86th-minute penalty and although Tomas Pina pulled one back late on, there was no way back for Alaves.

Emmanuel Boateng's injury-time strike handed Levante a 1-0 home victory over bottom-of-the-table Malaga, whose relegation was confirmed in the process.

The visitors created the better chances before the break, but keeper Roberto had to save Levante midfielder Jose Campana's effort seconds after the restart.

Roger Marti went close for the home side and Maxime Lestienne for Malaga as time ran down, but Boateng's last-gasp contribution secured the points and ended the visitors' slim survival hopes.

There was late drama too at the Benito Villamarin Stadium as Real Betis defender Junior Firpo's header consigned second-bottom Las Palmas to defeat at the death.

Keeper Raul Lizoain kept the visitors, who had wing-back Michel Macedo sent off for a second bookable offence with 86 minutes gone, in the game until the fourth minute of injury time, when Firpo struck to snatch a sixth successive win for Betis.
