Adel Taarabt has joined Genoa on an 18-month loan in a bid to rejuvenate his career.
The former Tottenham and QPR winger, who also had loan spells with Fulham and AC Milan, joined Portuguese champions Benfica on a five-year deal in June 2015.
However, Taarabt failed to play a single match for the club's senior side after he was banished to the B team following a fall-out with the club's hierarchy amid claims of partying and fitness issues.
The 27-year-old Morocco international has fond memories of his time spent playing in Serie A with the Rossoneri and he has vowed to repay Il Vecchio Balordo's faith in him.
"Genoa was my destiny, I played twice at Marassi and I scored two goals," Taarabt told Sky Sport Italia.
"I missed Italy and now I feel well physically even though it's been a year and a half since I played.
"I want to repay Genoa for believing in me."
