Ashley Cole has been left out of Roma’s Champions League squad.

Cole joined the Serie A side from Chelsea last July but struggled to secure a permanent place in the starting XI, playing just 16 times for them in his debut season.

The 34-year-old defender is now out of head coach Rudi Garcia's European plans, with Cole not even listed on Roma's official website as one of their players.

Roma signed Lucas Digne from Paris Saint-Germain during the transfer window to replace Cole at left-back and the France international played well as he made his debut in Sunday's 2-1 win over defending champions Juventus.

Midfielder Kevin Strootman, who underwent his third knee surgery in two years this week, was also left out of the Italian side's Champions League squad.

Squad: Castan, De Rossi, De Sanctis, Digne, Dzeko, Falque, Florenzi, Salah, Iturbe, Keita, Manolas, Nainggolan, Pjanic, Rudiger, Maicon, Szczesny, Torosidis, Totti, Ucan, Vainqueur, Gervinho.
