Borussia Dortmund lost ground on Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga on Wednesday night as they failed to take maximum points for the first time this season.

After winning 11 out of 11 in all competitions, Thomas Tuchel's men finally came unstuck in a 1-1 draw at Hoffenheim.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's seventh goal of the season, continuing his record of having scored in all six of Dortmund's Bundesliga games this season, was not enough for the Westphalians.

Dortmund now trail leaders Bayern Munich by two points with the Bavarians extending their perfect start to the season with a 5-1 win over Wolfsburg on Tuesday night.

The draw also allowed Dortmund's local rivals Schalke to narrow the gap by moving into third place thanks to a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Joel Matip and a fine Leroy Sane individual goal saw the Royal Blues move on to 13 points, just three behind Dortmund and five adrift of Bayern, while two ahead of the Wolves in fourth.

Evidence that a managerial change can be a good thing came in Monchengladbach where Borussia picked up their first points and first win of the season with a 4-2 triumph over Augsburg.

The win lifted Gladbach off the bottom of the table with Hannover dropping to the foot of the table after obliging Stuttgart their first points at the Niedersachsenstadion.

Despite taking the lead, the Lower Saxony side fell to a 3-1 defeat at home with the pressure mounting on coach Michael Frontzeck, whose side have now lost five games in a row.

Wednesday night's other game saw Bayer Leverkusen end their own three-game losing streak with Javier Hernandez's first Bundesliga goal enough to earn them a 1-0 win over Mainz.
