Borussia Dortmund kept up the pressure on Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga with a 3-1 win at Augsburg which took them back to within five points of the league leaders.
With only seven games of the season remaining, Dortmund also mathematically secured their place in the Champions League for next season after coming from behind to beat the struggling Bavarians.
Augsburg's in-form Alfred Finnbogason gave the hosts the lead, but the side who were knocked out of the Europa League by Liverpool could not hold on against the Premier League club's next opponents in the competition.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan brought Dortmund level with his 10th of the season, setting a new personal best for a single season in the Bundesliga, before goals from Gonzalo Castro and Adrian Ramos sealed Dortmund's win.
With 22 points between them and fifth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach, they cannot now slip out of the top four this season.
Bayer Leverkusen could still break into the top four, on the other hand, after they defeated Stuttgart 2-0.
Julian Brandt and Karim Bellarabi got Roger Schmidt's men back on course for a place in the Champions League in Swabia.
The Werkself are now up to sixth and only two points behind fourth-placed Schalke, and they will fancy their chances of eating at European football's top table once again next season after a morale-boosting victory.
They host Wolfsburg next weekend in a fixture which could have an important say in who will join Bayern and Dortmund in the Champions League next term.
