Borussia Monchengladbach left letters to the employers of each of the club's 300 fans who stayed for their re-arranged Champions League clash against Manchester City.
The tie was originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday, but torrential rain and thunderstorms caused the game to be postponed until Wednesday.
Borussia Monchengladbach refunded all of their supporters' tickets - whether they chose to attend the game or not - and the club's sporting director, Max Erbel addressed the attending fans' employers to explain why they were returning from England a day later than planned.
The letter said: "Unfortunately, your employee (insert name) cannot appear at work on Thursday as he is in Manchester to fulfil the important duty of supporting Mönchengladbach in the Champions League. We thank you for accepting his apology to stay away for one day."
In the re-arranged fixture, Manchester City strolled to a comfortable 4-0 victory over the German side, as Sergio Aguero scored his second European hat-trick of the season and Kelechi Iheanacho added a late fourth goal.
Elsewhere in Group C, Celtic suffered their heaviest European defeat, as Barcelona cruised to a 7-0 win.
