Lahm blow for Stuttgart

Stuttgart full back Philipp Lahm will be sidelined for six weeks with a foot injury.

Stuttgart full back Philipp Lahm will be sidelined for six weeks after picking up a foot injury.

Lahm suffered a stress fracture in his right foot in training on Tuesday and has been ruled out of Stuttgart's plans until February.

The Germany international is still expected to join his team-mates for the club's winter training camp in Marbella next week as part of his rehabilitation.

But Stuttgart coach Matthias Sammer lamented the injury to Lahm, who is currently on a two-year loan from Bayern Munich.

"Philipp's injury is naturally annoying for us," Sammer told the club's official website.

"I hope that he is at our disposal again as soon as possible. Such situations are also a chance for other players to force their way into the team."

Lahm will miss the next four matches in Die Bundesliga when the competition resumes while he will also be sidelined for Germany's friendly with Argentina on February 9.

The following week, Stuttgart face Parma in the Uefa Cup and Lahm will be hoping he can recover his fitness in time for that match.
