Manuel Neuer fractured his foot as Cristiano Ronaldo scored during Bayern Munich's Champions League defeat by Real Madrid.

Neuer sustained the injury as Ronaldo scored his third goal in extra time but completed the entire match as the Bundesliga champions eventually lost 6-3 on aggregate to their Spanish opponents, having levelled the tie by leading 2-1 at the end of normal time on Tuesday night.

Ronaldo's two goals in the extended 30 minutes completed a perfect hat-trick, while a final strike from Marco Asensio rounded off an ultimately disappointing night for Bayern in Madrid.

Bayern will now be without stalwart goalkeeper Neuer for a "lengthy spell" after the 31-year-old sustained the foot injury at the Bernabeu, meaning he is likely to miss the club's end of season run-in.

"Sadly, Manuel Neuer suffered a fracture in his left foot during Real Madrid's game with Bayern Munich and is set for a lengthy spell out," Bayern said on social media. "Get well soon, Manu!"

The club confirmed Neuer will undergo a thorough examination as soon as he returns to Munich, when a decision on the appropriate treatment will be made.
