Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has refused to be drawn on the potential of a reunion with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Gundogan was a key player in Klopp's Dortmund team - scoring in their Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich in 2013 - and was close to joining Manchester United in April.

The Germany international recently signed a contract extension which runs until the summer of 2017, the short length of which could mean he is available for a reduced price.

Gundogan has stated that he is not a certainty to leave if Dortmund again fail to qualify for the Champions League, and when asked about Liverpool, only said: "They have a good team, a great coach."

The midfielder is receptive to talks over a new deal at Dortmund but admits he does not know when such contract discussions will take place.

"There are no new developments as of yet. I am feeling very well at BVB [Dortmund] and I know what I have at this club," he said.

"I know that I will have to deal with the matter of my future at some point and that people expect me to make a decision. I want to deal with this situation in a respectful way and will sit down with the Dortmund management first and make a decision. But I do not know when that moment will be yet

"I believe everybody here at Dortmund wants to be back in the Champions League next season and anything else would be a major disappointment.

"But that does not mean that I will definitely leave if we don't qualify. I'm not that kind of person. I would already have left last summer had that been one of the criteria for me."
