Ajax missed the chance to move to within three points of Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord after a 1-1 home draw with PSV Eindhoven.

They remain second, but trail their rivals by five points at the season's halfway stage after squandering the lead against third-placed PSV, who with a total of 34 are a further three points behind.

Davy Klaassen's 48th-minute finish put them on course for victory, but former Ajax forward Siem de Jong's equaliser 10 minutes from time maintained PSV's own pursuit of the title.

A 1-0 home win for ADO Den Haag's 10 men over Sparta Rotterdam took the 14th-placed hosts three points clear of the bottom three.

Heracles maintained their push for the top seven with a 3-0 home win over PEC Zwolle, who remain in the bottom three after being reduced to nine men.

Go Ahead Eagles remain bottom of the table and four points from safety after drawing 1-1 at 10th-placed Groningen.

Mimoun Mahi gave the hosts the lead in the 20th minute, before Jarchinio Antonia's 31st-minute equaliser secured a draw.

There was also a draw between Excelsior and NEC Nijmegen. Hosts Excelsior, who sit 15th and two points above the bottom three, took the lead in the 11th minute through Stanley Elbers.

A 41st-minute goal from Jay-Roy Grot brought the visitors level, and though another from Khalid Karami in the 49th minute restored Excelsior's lead, Dario Dumic's in the 78th minute ensured a 2-2 draw that leaves his side 12th.

Feyenoord won 3-1 at home to Vitesse Arnhem on Saturday.
