ADO Den Haag boosted their hopes of survival in the Eredivisie with a 1-0 home victory against NEC on Saturday.

Mike Havenaar's first goal since August separated the sides, with the Japan international's second-half strike earning the hosts a first win in nine league matches and moving them to within a point of safety.

Den Haag are now hot on the heels of both Roda JC Kerkrade and Go Ahead Eagles, who were beaten 3-1 at home by PSV Eindhoven.

Luuk de Jong scored either side of Elvis Manu's equaliser for the hosts, the first from the penalty spot, before Andres Guardado sealed all three points for PSV five minutes from time.

Excelsior edged away from the relegation places after a 4-1 home win against Heerenveen.

Goals from Stanley Elbers, Jurgen Mattheij and Milan Massop had Excelsior firmly in control with 48 minutes on the clock. Luciano Slagveer reduced the deficit late on but Excelsior would not be denied a first win in 13 league games and Nigel Hasselbaink's injury-time strike restored the three-goal cushion.

Heracles Almelo pulled further clear of danger with a surprise 2-1 home win over fourth-placed FC Utrecht, who led at half-time through Yassin Ayoub's goal.
