Lukas Gortler was shown a second yellow card from the bench in the closing stages

Lukas Gortler was shown a second yellow card for Utrecht after time-wasting, despite having already been substituted.

As Utrecht entered stoppage time at 0-0 with Ajax on Sunday, Gortler kept the ball close to his chest near the touchline as Justin Kluivert, son of Dutch legend Patrick, attempted to grab it from him.

Referee Danny Makkelie viewed the act as time-wasting as pushing and shoving ensued, and striker Gortler was shown a second booking before being ushered away down the tunnel to applause from the home fans at Stadion Galgenwaard.

Utrecht held on for the final moments for a draw, which leaves them in seventh place in Eredivisie. Ajax are now seven points behind leaders PSV with the draw, after the Eindhoven side won 2-0 at Twente on Saturday.
