Feyenoord have confirmed that Gertjan Verbeek will take charge of the club for next season.

Heerenveen coach to replace Van Marwijk

Feyenoord have confirmed that Gertjan Verbeek will take charge of the club for next season. Bert van Marwijk will leave his Feyenoord post at the end of the current campaign after agreeing a deal to become Holland coach after Euro 2008. Feyenoord have moved for Verbeek to replace Van Marwijk after being impressed by the 45-year-old's leadership at Heerenveen this term. Verbeek has guided Heerenveen to fifth in the Eredivisie, one place above Feyenoord. He has signed a three-year deal with Feyenoord with the option of a further two seasons.

"Gertjan Verbeek has proven to be a modern coach who could get the maximum from his teams," read a statement from Feyenoord. "His teams have played with a very attractive, attacking style of football. "Verbeek has also proved he can make his players better, something which was very important in our choice looking to the talented young players in our squad. "We are extremely happy we reached an agreement with Gertjan. In the coming period we will take the time to fill in the rest of his staff." Speculation in the Dutch press suggests that Heerenveen will bring in Trond Sollied as Verbeek's successor.
