Real Madrid and Juventus will battle it out for Champions League glory on Saturday June 3 at Cardiff's Principality Stadium.

The 74,500-capacity stadium awaits both Real and Juve for the European showpiece, in what could be the first CL final played under a closed roof.

After defeating city rivals Atletico Madrid at the semi-final stage, Real are hoping to become the first side to defend the Champions League since its inception in 1992.

No club has won back-to-back European titles since AC Milan did so in 1989 and 1990, while Manchester United were the last holders to reach the final the following season, though they lost 2-0 to Barcelona in 2009 after beating Chelsea the year before.

Standing in the way of Real and a 12th European Cup are Juventus, who themselves are chasing victory in Europe for the first time since 1996.

Juventus succumbed to a final defeat the following season - losing 3-1 to Borussia Dortmund - while they also fell 1-0 to Real Madrid in the 1998 final and lost on penalties in the 2003 final to AC Milan at Old Trafford.

The Serie A outfit ensured of a repeat final with Real 19 years on after overcoming Monaco 4-1 on aggregate, with Dani Alves shining in both encounters against the Ligue 1 side.

Victory for Juventus would see Gianluigi Buffon lift the Champions League for the first time, with many hoping to see the veteran goalkeeper finally add the European trophy to his already-glittering cabinet.

Buffon and Juventus came close in 2003 and 2015, but ultimately finished as runners-up to Milan and Barcelona respectively.
